Howell Varsity Pompon Tryouts (Fall 2025)

When:

11/17 & 11/18 (5-8pm)

Where: Freshman Campus Gym

*Open to all incoming (2025-2026 school year)

9th-12th graders*

Documents Needed:

In order to be eligible to tryout, these documents need to be completed and turned in

- Google candidate tryout form (linked below)

            - *Due before tryouts (please try to have it in by 11/16)*

- Signed handbook slip (linked below) - *Turn in to coaches at tryouts*

- Copy of your most recent grades - *Turn in to coaches at tryouts*

- Physical form (you must use the MHSAA physical forms - 2 pages) (linked below)

           - If you don't have a physical on file in the athletic office, you will need a                      physical dated on/after April 15th, 2025 turned in prior to tryouts. Please turn in physicals to the athletic office (located in the high school field house), we don't collect physicals.

What to Bring/Wear:

*Make sure you have a current physical on file in the athletic office before tryouts*

-Clinic Day (11/17): After reading the handbook with your parent(s)/guardian - bring a copy of the signed handbook slip, a copy of your most recent grades, water, poms (if you have them), and wear comfortable clothes/tennis shoes. 

-Clinic Day (11/17): Bring water, poms (if you have them), and wear comfortable clothes/tennis shoes.

- Tryout Day (11/18): Wear black bottoms and a white plain top, look presentable (hair pulled back and out of face), bring poms (if you have them), and water.

How Tryouts Are Ran:

- Throughout the first day of tryouts, candidates will learn a routine that will be performed in front of judges on the second day of tryouts

- Appearance, knowledge of the routine, execution of the routine, timing of choreography, timing of kicks, form, sharpness/power, showmanship, and jumps are all categories that will be judged during the tryout. Also, the candidate's character, work ethic, attitude/behavior, and grades will also play a factor with tryout results. 

- Depending on the amount trying out, candidates will tryout either in pairs or alone

- Once you tryout, you may leave

- All tryout days are closed to spectators

Tryout Results

- Results will be posted/sent out within 48 hour after tryouts

- Results will be posted on this page of this website (green box at the top), our Instagram account @howell.varsity.pompon, our Facebook account @howellvarsitypom, and emails will be sent out 

- If you don't make the team, we always encourage to try out again!
